When you think of detoxing your system, you may well think you need to do a colon cleanse, a liver flush, cut down on processed foods and alcohol… and you really wouldn’t be wrong! However, don’t forget, the skin also plays a major part in detoxing the body and is one of its largest eliminative organs.
Benefits of skin brushingIt cleanses the lymphatic system and stimulates circulation. Tightens the skin, which helps prevent premature aging. Removes dead skin cells and tones the muscles. Improves your nervous system by stimulating the nerve endings in your skin.
1. Dry brush your body before you shower. Then wash away the impurities afterward.
2. Always brush toward the heart. Start with your feet, brushing in round circular motions. Then brush using long sweeping strokes up from the feet toward your thighs, from hands up toward the shoulders. Use anti-clockwise circular motions on the abdomen. Brush down from the neck and upwards on the back.
3. Brush once a day at least. A full skin brush takes about 15 minutes but any time spent will be beneficial.
4. Avoid any areas where the skin is broken, cut or you have rashes etc.
5. Clean your brush once a week with soap and water and hang to dry.
